Until the end of this year, Ukraine is expected to increase the price of buckwheat by 3 UAH / kg.
The cost of buckwheat will increase this year. Currently, it is sold at a price of 15-16 UAH / kg, and in the future it will rise in price to 20 UAH, says the head of the Association of suppliers of retail chains Alexey Doroshenko.
In his opinion, the price increase will occur due to the sowing of cereals in Ukraine. Most producers refused to grow buckwheat, since the price of cereals was declining throughout 2018.
In Ukraine, this is already a usual situation when the price rises throughout the year, the farmers begin to increase the sown area, and when the price drops, decrease, the expert sums up.
Earlier it was reported that in Ukraine sown areas for growing buckwheat were significantly reduced. Agrarians of Sumy region generally refused to grow crops this year due to its low profitability.
In the whole country, the acreage under buckwheat was cut and amounted to 57% of the planned. The total area sown with culture in Ukraine is 55 thousand ha. Due to a significant reduction in buckwheat cultivation, the volume of harvested crops may fall to historic lows.
