Preparatory work
It doesn’t matter if you are going to germinate the beans for eating them in this form or for further planting in the ground - it is necessary to prepare the seed.
First, beans need to be sorted out to weed out wrinkled, moldy, damaged ones. Then - carry out the soaking procedure. In ordinary water, beans are not very recommended to soak, because then the seed can quickly rot in cold soil. Although some use this particular technique: they immerse the beans in water for a very short time, then drain the liquid, and cover the container with seeds with a damp cloth. This avoids the formation of mold on the seed due to excess moisture. This method is usually resorted to when sprouting beans for eating.
Basically, it is advised to use such a technique: Spread the beans in a small container and pour hot (+ 70 ° С) potassium permanganate solution. The seed treated in this way must be sown immediately in the soil, and the remaining solution should be poured into the soil.Did you know? How to sprout beans at home
Not all bean varieties can be eaten. Typically, legumes such as adzuki, black beans, mung (mash), chickpeas, and pintos are used for this purpose.
There are also many varieties of beans intended for cultivation in the garden and not suitable for use in raw form. This point must be taken into account when planning the process of culture germination.
Important! In no case should you eat red bean sprouts, as well as soy, as they contain a number of toxic substances.
For landing
If you plan to sprout a small amount of beans at home, then you can use the following method:
- A piece of cloth is well moistened.
- Spread the beans on it.
- Cover with another piece of cloth.
- The fabric is constantly kept moist, but not wet.
- Beans should be washed 1-2 times a day under water so that mold does not form.
- In a day or two, the first sprouts will appear, and you can plant in the ground.
Another way to germinate a large amount of seed:
- Take a flat glass container.
- Sprinkle seeds at the bottom.
- Cover with a damp cloth and send to a warm place.
- After 2-3 days, the first sprouts appear. When they grow to 20-30 mm in length, they can be planted in the soil.
Important! Germinating beans in a glass jar minimizes the risk of mold.
Some use the technique of sprouting beans in cotton balls. To do this, each bean must be wrapped in cotton wool, put on the bottom of the glass container, moisten and put in a warm, bright place.
For use in food
The principle of sprouting beans for eating is the same as for planting on seedlings, but the technology is slightly different. It is necessary to take a plastic container - shallow, but wide. In its bottom, make holes for the outflow of moisture. This container should be placed in another, deeper, so that their bottom does not touch. Cover the smaller container with gauze, and lay over the selected seeds on top of it. Moisten gauze gently with water and cover with another shred on top. Place this structure in a well-lit and warm place. Crops need to be watered a couple of times a day with warm water, and the accumulated moisture in the lower bowl should be periodically drained.
Sprouts with this method of germination appear quickly, on the second day, but they are not yet suitable for food. It is necessary that the first leaves appear, and then the product will be ready for use. This happens after about 5 days.Video: how to sprout mung bean at home
Follow-up care
When germinating beans in food, young sprouts should be consumed immediately, as they quickly lose their nutritional properties. Therefore, further care for seedlings is necessary only if the crop is grown for seedlings. In this case, the most important thing is proper watering. Beans are a moisture-loving plant, but do not like it when water gets on the leaves. Because of this, you need to water as the soil dries and only under the root. It is advisable to carry out the irrigation procedure in the morning.
When a second pair of true leaves appears at the seedlings, watering must be stopped and resumed already at the beginning of flowering.
If the weather is cloudy and cool, then the plant needs to be highlighted.
As soon as the young shoots are a little stronger, you need to stick a stick near them and tie the seedlings to it. This is necessary so that in the future a young plant can wrap a stalk around the support.Did you know? Fungose noodles, often called “glass”, are prepared from starch extracted from mung bean (mung) beans - after cooking, it becomes transparent and with a slight sheen.
Beans do not need fertilizers, but if desired, it can be periodically fed with potash and phosphorus mixtures. Fertilizers should be applied once every 2 weeks or less.
How to use sprouted beans
It has already been mentioned that it is not necessary to stock up on a sprouted product. It is best to cook salads from young sprouts. Then the food will be as healthy as possible. Sometimes you can make a stock for a couple of days and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator, but this is only in extreme cases. Before use, the sprouts must be peeled and washed. Only after they can be used in salads, add them to baking, prepare sauces, first courses based on them, and use as a side dish for meat and fish.
Following the rules for growing and eating bean sprouts, you will quickly notice changes for the better in your body. Of course, not everyone likes to eat this product in its raw form, but if it is properly prepared or disguised, then family members will certainly be delighted with it, and you will be sure that they eat healthy food.
