Myanmar’s No.1 International Livestock, Feed & Agriculture Industry Exhibition is back for its 2020 edition. Held at the MEP Mindama in Yangon from 3 to 5 December 2020, the International Exhibition brings together all the relevant stakeholders of the livestock, feed and agriculture industry under one roof.
Over 250 companies and brands from 12 countries are expected to join the Show, showcasing a wide range of the latest products, solutions and technologies to improve the efficiency and productivity of Myanmar’s livestock industry. The Expo is expected to attract thousands of industry professionals from across the country representing the entire value chain, including integrators, livestock and aquaculture farmers, feed millers, wholesalers, retailers, importers, distributors and more.

Strategically located within ASEAN and in between China and India, growth has been rapidly picking up in Myanmar. According to the World Bank, Myanmar’s economy is projected to grow by 6.6% in 2020, 6.7% in 2021, and 6.8% in 2022. However, climate change has been posing a challenge to the development of the livestock industry. There is an urgent need to promote sustainable advancements in the livestock industry and build resilient farming systems. Poultry breeding businesses are now also increasingly shifting to modern farming techniques.
MARKET UPDATES
- The livestock and fisheries sector contributed 26% to Myanmar’s total Agricultural GDP.
- Myanmar has 20.2 million cattle / buffalo, 16.5 million pigs, and 8.8 million goats and sheep which are feeding an increasing urban population.
- Myanmar’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI), the Asia Development Bank (ADB), the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the Livelihoods and Food Security Trust Fund, launched a five-year Agriculture Development Strategy (ADS) in June 2018. The Strategy aims to enhance the capacity of the Government to design, create and implement policies and plans, increase agricultural productivity and income of smallholder farmers, and enhance market linkages and competitiveness of Myanmar’s farmers and agro enterprises.
- Supplying more than 85% of Myanmar’s animal protein consumption, the pork and poultry industry represents a substantial portion the economy.
- The African Swine Fever (ASF) has opened up a US $ 800 million opportunity to modernise farms and upgrade Myanmar’s pork supply chain infrastructure.
