Previously, in order to secure your home, a bolt with a lock was attached to the door, and wooden shutters were installed on the windows. A little later, the latter was replaced by metal grilles and plastic shutters, and today transparent shutters are in fashion, with which you can equip even a gazebo or a veranda so as not to obscure the viewing angle too much. About what it is, how it is installed and shows itself in operation, read below.
What is a roller shutter?
To begin with, it’s worth understanding the concept: roller shutters are a type of blinds. They are intended for installation on the outside of the window, and not on the inside.
The main function of such structures is protection against:
- damage to glass;
- intruders entering the house;
- prying eyes;
- weather disasters (wind, rain, dust, etc.).
The transparent version of the roller shutter is also designed to ensure that the view from the window is not inaccessible if necessary to keep them closed. In addition, this device has the function of noise isolation.
Design features
The transparent version of the roller shutter consists of several separate lamellas. They are interconnected by a profile, which is at the same time stiffening ribs. Also, the design is equipped with a mechanism by which the opening or assembly in the box is carried out. If necessary, they are folded and deployed. In open form remind frameless glazing.
Important! Mechanical shutters are more suitable for windows with small openings, and electric shutters are suitable for large-sized ones.
Views
There are two types of transparent roller shutters. They differ in the type of material used to create the lamellae. The first type is made of glass, the second - of polycarbonate. Before deciding to install a similar design, you should study in more detail the features of each option.
Glass
To produce this variation, tempered glass with high strength characteristics is used. Such material provides more reliable protection against natural disasters. It is equipped with a lifting mechanism, with which the entire canvas is hidden in a box or opens around the perimeter of the window space. The design has high reliability, but quite heavy, which complicates its installation.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is a very lightweight material. Today it is used in many fields of human activity. Shutters made of the material in question can be installed in any type of premises, including open ones. They transmit 90% of sunlight, perfectly protect from wind and rain. Such a design is quite light in weight, so its installation is not will become a problem.
Installation of roller shutters
All manipulations at the initial stage are carried out as for standard roller shutters, that is, they mount the box. The first step is to check the system and prepare the guides.
Did you know? The word "blinds" in translation from French means "envy, jealousy." The device received such a name due to the fact that it allows you to observe any object, while remaining invisible.
Phased steps:
- Place the box on a flat surface and make markings on it. To indicate the first point, you need to deviate from the edge of 10 cm, all subsequent ones are set in increments of 40-50 cm.
- Mark the marked spots into holes using an 8 mm drill.
- Attach the shutter cover to the wall of the structure and make 2 holes 4 mm in size at the edges for mounting rivets.
- Mark the fixing points to the wall on the side and drill them with an 8 mm drill.
- Assemble the structure by connecting the box with the rails.
- Mark the opening for mounting the canvas: attach the assembled system to the wall, transfer all points from it to the partition, do not forget to check the diagonal alignment first. Make holes at the set points. Place dowels in them. If necessary, make openings in the lower part of the wall for fixing the locking parts.
- After all of the above, they proceed to the direct installation of the frame. To do this, remove the film from the canvas. Check the location of the holes on the box. Fasten all the parts together using self-tapping screws.
- Next, you need to fix the control system. To do this, make markings on the wall, then drill holes and fasten the tape stacker with guides.
- Spacing rings are fixed on top of the box openings. After that, they proceed to the installation of crossbars on both sides of the panel, which at this moment is wrapped around the shaft and led into the guides. Now you can fix the traction springs, which are mounted inside the shaft holes.
- Having finished work, the box is closed, the remnants of the protective film are removed. After that, plugs are mounted and everything is sealed with silicone.
- The final step will be to connect the mechanism by which the canvas will be folded and laid out.

Control
Modern equipment of this type is equipped with a mechanical or electric drive. This device makes it possible to quickly raise and lower the structure at the right time. The entire canvas is hidden in the box in less than 1 minute. With the same speed it opens, it is only necessary to actuate the mechanism.
Important! Electric shutters can be included in the list of Smart Home options or controlled from a PC or phone. This is extremely convenient, since manually nothing needs to be done at all.
Advantages and disadvantages of transparent roller shutters
Today, shutters made of transparent materials are considered the latest model. Both glass and polycarbonate options look equally good and cope with their basic functions. However, like all things, they are not ideal. Before making a final decision, you should familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of structures.
- The main advantages of transparent roller shutters:
- reliability;
- long service life;
- simplicity in installation;
- ease of care and maintenance;
- in case of breakdown, the details are easily changed;
- high decorative and fire safety;
- providing additional sound insulation;
- low susceptibility to corrosion.
- Among the disadvantages, the following aspects can be distinguished:
- high cost of structures;
- they are inferior in resistance to cracking to metal gratings;
- during icing, the lock sensor will work, which will lead to the need to debug the drive by the master;
- the need to conduct annual inspections in order to troubleshoot and adjust together with a specialist.
Did you know? Roller blinds transmit only 10% of sunlight into the room, and, accordingly, much less heat is received. In the heat, this device can be an excellent replacement for air conditioning.
Any veranda, terrace or gazebo equipped with transparent shutters will look interesting and unusual. A similar design can be mounted even in an open room. Her installation takes no more time and effort than a standard plastic one, and the roller shutters look much better.
