The number of participants in the Grain SA Farmer Development Program in the East Cape of the Republic of South Africa is growing every year, currently 3,581 small grain producers are participating in it.
Cinelizvi Fakade, program coordinator in the Eastern Cape, said that as far back as 2016-2017, only 448 small farmers took part in the program.
The increase in the number of program participants, according to Fakade, is mainly due to the positive results achieved by the program participants and the impact that these successes had on the commercial potential of agricultural land use in the Eastern Cape of the country. The program coordinator said that for crop production in Over 260 thousand hectares of arable land are available in the province. To date, 7,665 hectares have been successfully adapted for commercial grain cultivation, and over 85% of the cultivable land is rural tribal land. The main goal of the Grain SA Farmers Development Program is to develop sustainable grain farming farms, as well as to promote food security for households and the state as a whole by making optimal use of the land available to individual producers. In addition, the project aims to enable farmers to engage in agriculture on yourself using your own equipment.Share
