The meat was recalled due to possible contamination with a foreign substance after one consumer found plastic in their food.
Fairmont Foods, Inc., a Fairmont, Minnesota-based company, withdraws about 35,145 pounds (15.9 tons) of ready-to-eat pork and beef products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, in particular clear plastic, US Department of Agriculture reports and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Frozen, ready-to-eat pork and beef products were made on May 2, 2019 for the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants in Louisiana. The firm contacted FSIS after it received a message stating that a consumer had discovered a piece of soft plastic in the product.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. FSIS has not received any additional reports of injuries or illnesses resulting from the use of these products. Anyone who is worried about an injury or illness should see a doctor.
FSIS is concerned that some foods may be in restaurant freezers. Restaurants cannot use this product. These products must be discarded or returned at the place of purchase, the federal agency said.
