In March of this year, the cost of fresh herbs in Ukraine increased by 19%.
Neither spring warming nor the start of sales of greenhouse greenery locally grown in the south of the country were able to stop the price increase, EastFruit experts report. In March, coriander rose in value most - by 66%. Dill has become more expensive by 1/3. The price of parsley has slightly decreased.
Basil turned out to be the most expensive green of the Ukrainian market. Wholesale outlets sell it at a price of 450 UAH / kg, which is $ 16.7 / kg. For coriander they ask about 245 UAH / kg ($ 9.1 per kg). Parsley and dill cost much less - 85 UAH / kg ($ 3.1 / kg) and 60 UAH / kg ($ 2.2 / kg), respectively. In winter, Ukraine buys fresh herbs from Georgia, Uzbekistan, Iran and Israel. Recently, Georgia, a leader among exporters of green goods, has given way to other suppliers able to offer more attractive prices. Cultivation of green crops in Ukraine remains the prerogative of small businesses and household plots of citizens.
Basically, greenery is grown for sale by private farms located near large settlements. In the season, such trade brings great profits, because there is no competition among industrialists, and the cost of greenery is always stably high. The impressive pace of sales of local products is also explained by the fact that the Ukrainian buyer is more willing to pay for the greens of domestic producers, analysts say.
