Nir Mayri lives in London. His main activity is interior design. However, recently, as part of his creative work, he came close to farming: to create unique design lamps, Nir needed to understand the intricacies of working with mushroom mycelium.
“I decided to make a whole series of lampshades, but I certainly wanted to refuse any use of synthetic materials. Mushroom mycelium came to the rescue: the vegetative component of the mushrooms served as raw material for the creation of my lampshades, ”Meiri says. - I made their metal stand for my unique lamps. The result was really beautiful lamps that emit soft light from under the amazing grayish lampshades. ”
It should be added that Nir is not the first British innovator who uses mushroom mycelium in the creation of designer things. Before him, Sebastian Cox resorted to this material, who showed the world excellent stools with a soft seat made of mycelium. Those who had the opportunity to get acquainted with Cox’s work in person noted that the texture of the mycelial pillow resembles suede.
