Egypt did not accept cargo previously purchased at the GASC tender organized by the State Procurement of Egyptian Grain of Romania for Romanian wheat.
The reason for the refusal to accept was the low number of falls according to Hagberg, which did not meet the tender requirements previously put forward by the State purchaser of grain in Egypt.
To avoid a possible mistake, the purchased grain was checked twice, and both checks showed unsatisfactory results.
The supplier of 60 thousand tons of wheat from Romania was ADM.Today, the cargo remains in one of the Egyptian ports. What will happen to him next is hard to imagine. It should be noted that the “Hagberg number of falls” is an indicator of the activity of a particular enzyme, namely, alpha-amylase, used to determine the suitability of wheat for baking bread. The higher this indicator is, the better.
Alpha-amylase, acting on starch molecules, breaks them down to the state of sugars. As a result, a gas is formed that determines the porosity and good structure of the loaf of bread. A low number of drops is an indicator of the high activity of alpha-amylase, which leads to the active breakdown of starch and, ultimately, to the fact that the dough for baking bread will be sticky and sticky.
